On May 26, 2022, the Boys Varsity Volleyball team secured the school’s first ever PSAL City Championship win in boys volleyball. The game was hosted at York College in Queens, and was played against Fort Hamilton High School.

The Madison team kicked off the playoffs with a 2-0 sweep against Stuyvesant High School, followed by victories against Cardozo and Midwood High School of 2-1, earning their spot in the finals.

Prior to the finals, Madison played two official regular season games against Fort Hamilton High School. In the first game, Madison dealt a crushing defeat, 0-2, against Fort Hamilton, but emerged victorious in the second game, winning 2-1. Due to the teams’ tied record this season, it was difficult to anticipate the outcome of this finals game. Nevertheless, the team was able to seize victories in both the first and second sets, claiming the 2022 PSAL City Championship title, 2-0.

Although the team’s star player, Peter Gavroff, will be graduating this year to play D-1 collegiate volleyball at LIU, the team’s future continues to look promising. The remainder of the starting lineup is expected to return next season with the only exception being Gavroff. Along with Gavroff, this win was made possible by the contributions of starters Lasha Kemashvili, Valerii Pidhoretskyy, Artem Sokolov, Nikita Sokolov, Bakhtiyor Subkhonkulov, as well as defensive specialist, Lenny Arbitman, and libero, Wen Qiang (Simon) Zhou. Special recognition must also be accredited to co-coaches, Ms. Han and Ms. Chen, for their dedication to the success of the team.

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Volleyball team once again on their historic win and we wish them the best of luck on their future endeavors!
